2021 Cobb Wines Doc's Ranch Vineyard JoAnn's Block Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast

96 points Decanter

"Ethereal, this 0.3ha parcel from the Doc's Ranch JoAnn's Block offers a Chardonnay loaded with seaspray minerality; Ross picked it when he thought it was ready to go, judging by aromatics rather than brix or pH. Cobb uses full malo to balance the laser-powered acidity - aromas of lemon grass, seaspray, and smoky lime pith. The palate is effusive and energetic with cut green apple, petrichor, and lemon oil. Drinking window: 2024-2037."

"The 2019 Chardonnay Doc's Ranch Vineyard JoAnn's Block comes from vines planted in marine sedimentary soils at 1,000 feet in altitude. It underwent full malolactic conversion and was matured in 10% new French oak for 22 months. It has delicate, slowly unwinding scents of golden apples, bread dough, beeswax, saline and matchstick. The light-bodied palate is intensely focused, with a tangy spine of acidity driving expansive fruits that seem to gain in intensity as it glides through the mouth, and a touch of texture lengthens the finish. Reminiscent of Chablis, the JoAnn's Block offers surprising flavor for its modest 11.2% alcohol, and it will be long lived in bottle." (EB)

2021 Cobb Wines Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Sonoma Coast

"The Doc's Ranch is east-facing 1150-1200 feet of elevation, and according to Cobb, it is pummeled with fog. The slope is southeast facing, and Ross uses 50% whole cluster to make this wine - aromas of red flowers and mint, white pepper and wild green strawberries. The palate shows sweet red berries, lightly spiced with notes of white pepper and an elegantly textured mouthfeel. This Pinot dances across the palate with zippy, savoury white pepper and a fresh note of evergreen sap and lithe pine needles lingering on through the finish. Drinking window: 2024-2040."

96 points | Jeb Dunnuck

"The ruby red 2021 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard boasts a fruitier and more floral nose, showing off notes of ripe strawberries, raspberries, rose petals, and herbes de Provence. The palate offers a haunting, delicate feel, with refined, ripe tannins, a mineral texture, and a graceful and weightless feel. It's going to take time to open but will drink well over the next 12-15 years."

94 points | Vinous

"The 2021 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch VIneyard is a very pretty, restrained wine. Dark cherry, lavender, spice, new leather and incense are all delineated. This translucent, clasically-built Pinot offers tremendous character and nuance. The style is one of effusive beauty and poise - more aromatics than body, with lovely complexity from the 50% stems."

2021 Cobb Wines Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Swan & Calera Selection

96 points | Wine Advocate

"The 2021 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Swan & Calera Selection comes from Calera and Swan clone vines planted in marine sedimentary soil at 1000 to 1100 feet in altitude. Made with 50% whole clusters, it opens with pure tones of cinnamon, red cherry and pomegranate; and with time in the glass, it reveals nuances of Earl Grey tea leaves, tangerine, aniseed and rosewater. The light-bodied palate has a weightless feel with its finely chalky tannins and shimmery acidity, yet it offers highly concentrated, nuanced flavors and has a long, expressive finish." EB

95 points | Decanter

"The original block at Doc's is comprised of Swan clone planted in the mid-90s, and then Calera was planted in 2000. This is a blend of half-old vine and half-younger vine bottling. White pepper, red berries, mint and pine bough alight from the glass. This is followed by a silky palate of red and blue fruits that is lifted by saline notes of seaspray. Fresh mint mingles with white pepper on the finish of this wine. Drinking window: 2024-2035."

93 points | Vinous

"The 2021 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch VIneyard Swan & Calera Selection is beguiling. Sweet red cherry, mint, star anise, crushed flowers, cedar and autumn leaves all grace this lifted, ethereal Pinot. A wine of understatement and class, the 2021 needs time to come into its own. It is undeniably gorgeous, though, and bursting with character." AG

2019 Cobb Wines Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Sonoma Coast

97 points | Decanter

"The Doc's Ranch, as Ross explains, sits just on the other side of a ridgeline from the Coastlands Vineyard, so it benefits from the southeastern exposure, and the coastal winds are buffetted by the ridgeline. A stunning wine. Aromatic elegance with notes of candied strawberries, and wintergreen. The palate is lithe and packed with verve. Bright red fruits mix with savoury notes, fine earthen minerality and lively acid."

97 points | Wine Advocate

"Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch opens with pomegranate, rhubarb and raspberry preserves accented by tones of cinnamon, blood orange, dried sage, potpourri and bitters, offering more nuance with each return to the glass. The palate surprises with its sheer intensity of fruit, supported by ubiquitous, sandy tannins and seamless acidity, finishing long and spicy."

"Sporting a jeweled ruby color, the 2019 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard offers terrific purity in its notes of framboise, fresh rosemary, and black pepper. Medium-bodied, it has a fantastically refined, graceful mineral texture, elegant tannins, and fresh acidity without being austere. This is an outstanding and graceful wine. Drink 2023-2038."

The medium-bodied palate offers surprising fruit intensity for its delicate frame, and it finishes with tremendous length and layer after layer of spicy fruit." (EB)

"Also ruby-hued, the 2019 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Swan & Calera Selection is beautiful, with a floral perfume of lavender, pure red cherry, and five spices. Medium-bodied with more concentration on the mid-palate, it has ripe tannins, a gravelly texture, refreshing lift, and a long finish. Drink 2024-2034."

94 points | Vinous

"The 2019 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Swan & Calera Selection is bright and effusive, with lovely aromatic presence to play off a core of red-toned fruit. Brisk acids and veins of tannin lend palpable energy throughout. This really sizzles with tension. Give it a few years to soften. Time in the glass brings out striking inner perfume and tons of class."

2019 Cobb Wines Doc's Ranch Vineyard JoAnn's Block Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast

98 points Decanter

"This is a masterclass in Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Crystalline aromatics of sea foam, lemon verbena, petrichor, grilled lemon peel, and a savoury, smoky edge. The palate is mineral driven, refined, yet edgy. Tempermental yet linear fruit flavours, shifting from apricot flesh to peach skin and grapefruit pith. There is a mineral core of smoky flint, crushed chalk and wet stone. This wine is just showing itself and will become more compelling, if that's possible, in a few years."

97 points Wine Advocate

"The 2019 Chardonnay Doc's Ranch Vineyard JoAnn's Block has intense aromas of white peaches, beeswax, roasted almonds, biscuit and flint. The medium-bodied palate is savory and textural, with a biscuity character that adds breadth and savoriness. It has seamless acidity and a very long finish that offers continually shifting flavors. It's very energetic and will be long lived in the cellar." (EB)

2018 Cobb Wines Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Pommard & 114 Selection

96 Points | Robert Parker Wine Advocate

95 Points | Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2018 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Pommard 114 Selection is a bit darker and richer than the straight Pommard. Blackcherry, spice, licorice and earthy notes infuse the 2018 with so much character. Broad and ample in feel, the 2018 marries finesse with power. It is another stellar Pinot in this range from Ross Cobb. Drinking window: 2024-2033"

2018 Cobb Wines Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Pommard Selection

98 Points | Joshua Greene, Wine & Spirits Magazine

"It might give you the high of walking through a grassy meadow, the rush of the scent of a rose as it opens to the sun, the cool of an evening in July when wild raspberries and cherries provide the most satisfying and simple dessert. What ties it back to the coast is the texture of the wine, an idealized take on the supple tannins of the stems and the skins of the grapes, a detailed pattern that pinot noir can achieve in close proximity to the Pacific." - J. Greene

95 Points | Antonio Galloni

"The 2018 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Pommard is sensual, open-knit and so gracious. Bright red cherry fruit, orange peel, spice, mint and sweet pipe tobacco all meld together in a gorgeous, mid-weight Pinot that is so full of immediacy and allure. Readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine. The 40% whole clusters are not at all perceptible. Drinking window: 2023-2033" - A. Galloni

2018 Cobb Wines Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Calera Selection

95 Points | Robert Parker Wine Advocate

96 Points | Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2018 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Calera Selection is holding back a lot in reserve, but its beauty and pedigree are apparent. Deep and powerful, with huge structure, the 2018 is a decidedly imposing Pinot. All the elements are there for it to develop into a stellar wine. Actually, it already is. The 2018 is a Pinot of sublime elegance and finesse, but it won't show all of its cards for at least a few years. Drinking window: 2024-2033"

"The 2018 Pinot Noir Doc's Ranch Vineyard Swan & Calera Selection is scented of red cherries and cranberries with tones of bitter citrus, tobacco leaves, dried flowers and Angostura bitters. Light-bodied, silty and incredibly fresh, its slim frame holds a surprising amount of pure, crunchy fruits, and it finishes with tremendous length and spicy layers. The Swan clone fruit included in this cuvee comes from vines planted in 1999, and the Calera clones were planted in 2011. It's another 2018 from the Cobb portfolio that offers both ageability and immediate appeal." - Robert Parker Wine Advocate

"Powerful and structured, with pure, focused minerality to the dried red currant, berry and cherry paste flavors. Sinewy midpalate, with a taut finish that resonates with fresh acidity and tannins as well as savory richness" - Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator
