The Sheets family shares a passionate vision with their winery partners to faithfully express the unique site characteristics of Doc’s Ranch Vineyard. They are native Californians who find solace in the pristine serenity found on the northern California coast. After procuring the original blocks and home site in 2005, they acquired the neighboring parcel in 2008 and planted six new blocks encompassing three clones of pinot noir and a single clone of chardonnay. Aspiring to be good stewards of the land, they promptly put in place organic, sustainable and fish-friendly farming practices that continue to be used today to maintain a legacy for future generations.
WINEMAKER: CARROLL KEMP
Carroll is the Winemaker for Red Car Wine Company, an award-winning winery in Sebastopol focused on producing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah from a network of cold-climate vineyards located in the West Sonoma Coast. Red Car is one of our partners in the crafting of vineyard-designated wines from Doc’s Ranch Vineyard. The wines are made in small lots using minimalist intervention techniques like native yeast fermentation, gravity flow, and natural acid. For Carroll, each winegrowing decision at Doc’s Ranch emphasizes the crafting of aromatic wines of complexity, finesse and balance. The low yields, hands-on farming and ocean influenced climate of the vineyard enable the wines to offer intensity of flavor without the weight of excessive alcohol.
VITICULTURIST: GREG ADAMS
Greg, a native of Sonoma County, understands the dedication to detail required to grow world-class winegrapes. Greg earned his BS degree in Agricultural Engineering Technology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and his M.S. degree in Viticulture at the University of California Davis in 1992. Greg then spent nearly six years living and consulting in Argentina working with top wineries improving the quality of estate and reserve winegrape sources and developing world class vineyards. His expertise in South America caught the attention of Kendall-Jackson who hired him to oversee their vineyard development project in Argentina and assist with the development of their Chilean wine program. In addition to Doc’s Ranch Vineyard, Greg has developed vineyards in Sonoma County at Flowers Winery, Lynmar Estate, Freeman Winery, and in Napa Valley at Stag’s Leap Cellars. Beyond his technical expertise, Greg brings an understanding of people to his work, collaborating closely with workers, crews, and wineries to coax the best out of unique vineyard sites.
